TDP fans are now coming under fire, adding an unexpected twist to the ongoing buzz around Korean Kanakaraju. What started as comedy and imitation has slowly turned into a full-fledged social media trolling battle, giving the film more attention than anyone anticipated. First came Satya’s imitation of Senior NTR, complete with the dialogue, “Mee stroke chaala amateurish-ga undi.” Then came Muralidhar Goud’s Balayya-inspired Akhanda getup in Korean Kanakaraju. Both moments became talking points and, TDP fans are hurt in their own way, and their anger became free fuel for the film’s promotion. But the latest development is even more interesting. A section of TDP fans, who apparently took Satya’s imitation rather seriously, are now targeting the Mega camp in response. Old videos of Chiranjeevi and Nagababu are being dug out and circulated across social media, particularly wherever they can be used for trolling. The intention may be revenge, but the result is turning into unexpected publicity for Korean Kanakaraju. Every fresh troll, reaction, counter-reaction and old video brings the film back into online conversations. Of course, this kind of political and fan-war-driven trolling is hardly a healthy trend. It can quickly become unnecessarily personal and take attention away from cinema itself. Yet, ironically, the controversy is creating exactly what many films desperately need before release, visibility. So, while the trolling battle between fan groups may be unhealthy, the box-office equation could turn surprisingly healthy for Korean Kanakaraju. In the end, the irony is simple, the trolls may be fighting each other, but the film is getting the promotion. Korean Kanakaraju is directed by Merlapaka Gandhi and stars Varun Tej and Ritika Nayak in the lead roles, with Satya playing a key comic role.
