Vishwanath And Sons: Low Buzz in Telugu States

Why is there such low buzz around Vishwanath And Sons ahead of its Telugu release? With just five days left for the film to hit theatres, there appears to be very little promotional activity. Surprisingly, many Telugu audiences are not even aware that the film is releasing. Is this because the makers are treating it mainly as a Tamil-dubbed film and giving less importance to the Telugu market? If so, that approach is difficult to understand.
Director Venky Atluri and producer Naga Vamshi are both from the Telugu film industry and enjoy good recognition among Telugu audiences. More importantly, Suriya has a strong market in the Telugu states and enjoys considerable goodwill here. His recent dubbed film Veerabhadrudu also received a decent response from mass audiences. Vishwanath And Sons, meanwhile, is said to be a class-oriented family entertainer, which should ideally appeal well to Telugu family audiences. Moreover, Suriya’s films have often enjoyed strong patronage in the Telugu states. That makes the weak promotional push for Vishwanath And Sons even more surprising. Despite all these advantages, the film’s presence in the Telugu market remains surprisingly low. There is hardly any conversation or curiosity surrounding its release, which is worrying with the release date fast approaching. The contrast becomes even more noticeable when compared with the aggressive promotions carried out recently for films such as Maa Inti Bangaram, Lenin, Chennai Love Story and Korean Kanakaraju. Are the makers simply assuming that Suriya’s stardom alone is enough to generate buzz? That could be a risky assumption. Even established stars need strong visibility, particularly for dubbed releases. The lack of promotion for Vishwanath And Sons in the Telugu states is certainly surprising.
