Actor Suniel Shetty, who established himself as one of Bollywood’s popular action heroes, has recalled the hard work, perseverance and physical risks that went into building his action-star image.

In a throwback interaction with the media, Suniel said success was a combination of hard work and luck, while emphasising the importance of constantly learning and accepting criticism.

“75 per cent hard work, 25 per cent luck definitely, but I have put in a lot of hard work. Trying to learn, trying to take the critics very gracefully. Trying to understand what they are trying to say. Trying to eradicate my minus points and play on my plus points,” he said.

The actor also spoke about the physical demands of performing action sequences and stunts. According to Suniel, establishing himself as an action hero involved performing dangerous stunts that often resulted in serious injuries.

“Doing actions, stunts that could have killed me, that hurt me, that broke every bone in my body. To establish the image of an action hero,” he recalled.

Suniel said he wanted audiences to believe in the larger-than-life persona he portrayed on screen, adding that creating that image came with considerable physical pain and sacrifice.

After making his Bollywood debut with Balwan in 1992, Suniel went on to feature in several successful films, including Mohra, Border, Dhadkan, Hera Pheri, Main Hoon Na, Phir Hera Pheri and Awara Paagal Deewana.

He was last seen in the comedy Welcome to the Jungle. He is set to reprise his popular character Shyam in the upcoming instalment of the Hera Pheri franchise, which is currently in production.

Suniel will also share screen space with Tiger Shroff in an upcoming untitled action thriller directed by Sachin Ravi.
