Maruti Grand Vitara Crosses 4 Lakh Sales: Victoris Has Slowed It, But Not Stopped It

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has crossed four lakh domestic wholesales in 46 months, reaching 4,01,007 units by the end of June 2026. The milestone confirms that the SUV remains one of Nexa’s most important models, even though its sales pace has slowed since Maruti launched the closely Victoris through Arena.

The Grand Vitara went on sale in September 2022. It reached one lakh units in about 12 months, two lakh in roughly 22 to 23 months and three lakh in 32 months. The fourth lakh took a little over 14 months, making this the slowest one-lakh increment so far.

That does not mean the Grand Vitara has suddenly become a weak seller. It means Maruti now has two midsize SUVs using essentially the same platform and powertrain strategy, sold through two different retail networks.

The Victoris arrived in 2025 and has already crossed one lakh sales. It is sold through the much larger Arena network and overlaps heavily with the Grand Vitara on size, engines and price.

The Victoris is priced from about Rs 10.50 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh, while the Grand Vitara currently runs from roughly Rs 10.77 lakh to Rs 19.57 lakh, ex-showroom. Both offer a 1.5-litre petrol engine, strong-hybrid option and CNG, while the Grand Vitara also retains an AllGrip all-wheel-drive version.

The impact is visible in the numbers. Grand Vitara wholesales were 20,728 units in the first quarter of FY2027. Over the same period, the Hyundai Creta sold 37,694 units, the Kia Seltos 30,817 and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder 26,883. The Victoris, meanwhile, has become another high-volume Maruti competitor sitting inside the same broad segment.

Since launch, only two Nexa models have sold more units over the same broad period. The Baleno recorded 7,87,419 units from FY2023 to the end of June 2026, while the Fronx reached 5,25,964. The Grand Vitara’s 4,01,007 units put it third among Nexa’s major volume contributors during that window.

The SUV also adds export volume. Around 62,500 Grand Vitaras have been shipped overseas, giving the model a larger overall production footprint than domestic sales alone show.

FY2025 was its strongest full financial year with 1,23,946 units. The strong hybrid has been an important part of its identity, with hybrid variants recording 43 per cent year-on-year growth in FY2024-25. The CNG option and the rare availability of all-wheel drive in this segment have also helped Maruti cover several different customer requirements with one model.

The first month after the four-lakh cut-off was also its best month of the current financial year so far. Maruti dispatched 8,127 Grand Vitaras in July 2026. That is a useful sign because the milestone itself was counted only up to June.

The more interesting story is how Maruti manages two similar SUVs from here. The Grand Vitara has Nexa positioning and an established strong-hybrid customer base. The Victoris has the reach of Arena and a newer design, which naturally gives it an advantage with customers who simply want the latest Maruti midsize SUV.

For a buyer, the overlap can work in their favour. The mechanical similarity means the decision can come down to styling, equipment, dealer experience and the discount available on a particular variant. Grand Vitara offers have already become aggressive in August, with benefits on some versions reaching around Rs 1.30 lakh.
