Pamidi (Andhra Pradesh) – A private bus carrying 34 passengers from Hyderabad to Bengaluru collided with a cargo vehicle and fell off a bridge in Anantapur district early Sunday morning, injuring 23 passengers, police said.

According to police, the accident occurred around 4 a.m. in the Pamidi police station area, about 9 kilometers from Gooty. The bus was carrying 34 people, of whom 23 were injured. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. An official said, “According to preliminary investigations, the accident occurred on a one-way highway, where separate bridges have been built for vehicles traveling in opposite directions. The road is wide, but its width reduces by about 2 feet near the bridge. The narrowness of the road may have caused the driver to lose sight of the vehicle, causing it to hit the retaining wall on the left side.” The driver then abruptly veered to the right, and the bus coming from behind collided with it.

The officer stated that after the collision, both the cargo vehicle and the bus fell off the bridge. A first information report has been filed. The officer added that officials from the Motor Vehicles Department also inspected both vehicles involved in the accident.
