Arsenal’s move for a marquee left-winger has suffered a major setback after Vinicius Junior chose to stay with Real Madrid. Mikel Arteta’s team still need top-class reinforcements on the left side if they are to mount a serious Premier League title challenge.
With the summer transfer window moving towards its final phase, here are three alternatives the Gunners should now look at.
1. Rafael Leao
With AC Milan’s Rafael Leao reportedly preparing to say goodbye to the Italian club, the 26-year-old winger has emerged as a leading opportunity in the market.
Reports suggest Leao has proactively offered himself to Arsenal this summer, with the player keen on sealing a switch to the Premier League.
Although Manchester United made only a tentative move and Galatasaray put forward a firm offer worth €10 million per year, Leao’s preference is understood to be a move to England.
Available for a reported bargain fee of €50 million, his explosive quality in one-on-one situations makes him a strong and economical alternative to Vinicius.
2. Rodrygo
If Arsenal are unable to bring in Vinicius, they could turn their attention to his Real Madrid teammate Rodrygo.
According to pundits, failing to sign Vinicius should not trigger panic, because a player such as Rodrygo would genuinely strengthen Arsenal’s starting XI by providing crucial goals from wide positions.
Now back to full fitness, the Brazilian continues to be a dangerous creative presence.
With Real Madrid having signed Yan Diomande this summer, Rodrygo is expected to see his game time reduced significantly.
3. Marcus Rashford
A more unexpected but still fascinating Premier League option is Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
Priced at around €40 million in recent summer estimates, the England left-winger has been linked with Arsenal in transfer speculation on Transfermarkt.
A switch to North London could give fresh life to his career, while offering Arsenal a direct counter-attacking weapon who is already fully accustomed to the demands and intensity of English football.
Who would be the best fit for Arsenal?
While Rashford brings Premier League experience and Rodrygo offers proven technical class, Rafael Leao stands out as the clearest choice.
At only €50 million and with the player having already made contact with the club himself, the Portugal international appears to be an excellent fit for Arteta’s project.
Arsenal now need to move decisively if they are to beat Galatasaray to the deal and make Leao their new attacking talisman.
