New Delhi. A grand patriotic event is being organized in New Delhi today to mark the upcoming Independence Day celebrations and the historic 150th anniversary of the composition of India’s national song, “Vande Mataram.” According to the Ministry of Defense, the renowned band of the Indian Air Force will perform a special and historic musical performance at the National War Memorial in New Delhi this evening. This special event has been designed to ignite the spirit of patriotism and promote national pride among the countrymen through public participation.

The nation will resonate at the Supreme Warrior Site

This grand event will be held today, Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the National War Memorial’s public plaza (Supreme Warrior Site). During this event, the entire complex will be filled with patriotic tunes, allowing the public to witness this historic moment.

A 40-member team, including female musicians, will take charge.

This special Air Force band comprises a total of 40 musicians. The military band includes 32 experienced airmen from the Indian Air Force and eight Agniveervayu (Agniveer Vayu) recruits under the Army’s new structure. Furthermore, demonstrating women’s empowerment in the defense sector, three female musicians will also perform in this band.

Master Warrant Officer A. Srihari will lead the band

Renowned musicians of the Indian Air Force will conduct this prestigious event. Master Warrant Officer A. Srihari will lead the band as the chief conductor. Junior Warrant Officer Moon Deka, Junior Warrant Officer Abhishek Paul, and Sergeant N.T. Singh will be on stage as assistant conductors. This musical presentation will not only introduce the audience to the rich and disciplined musical traditions of the Indian Air Force, but will also bring alive the immortal history of “Vande Mataram,” composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. This song inspired millions of revolutionaries in India’s freedom struggle.
