New Delhi: Parliament will resume proceedings on Monday after a weekend break, but uncertainty continues over whether the government will introduce two politically sensitive issues- the Delimitation Bill and amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) during the remaining days of the session.
With only four working days left, the Centre has not announced any clear schedule regarding these proposed legislations, leaving both the government and opposition parties preparing for possible confrontations.
Delimitation Debate: Southern States Raise Concerns
The issue of delimitation has remained one of the most politically sensitive topics, especially among southern states. Several leaders have expressed concerns that a population-based delimitation exercise could impact their representation in Parliament.
The debate is also linked with the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill, making it a major political flashpoint ahead of future elections.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has said that opposition parties will discuss the matter collectively and decide their strategy if the government brings the legislation before Parliament.
FCRA Bill Faces Opposition Resistance
The proposed changes to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act have also drawn criticism from opposition parties, which have questioned the possible impact of stricter regulations on organisations receiving foreign funds.
Congress leaders have warned that any attempt to introduce the FCRA Amendment Bill in the final days of the session could lead to strong protests inside Parliament.
Packed Legislative Agenda Ahead
Apart from these controversial issues, Parliament is scheduled to take up several important bills, including the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026, Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026 and National Co-operative Development Corporation Amendment Bill, 2026.
Meanwhile, opposition parties are expected to continue demanding a discussion on the NEET paper leak controversy and police action against student protesters.
