Share Market Today, August 10: Uncertainty persists regarding the agreement between the US and Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz. This impact was also felt in the Indian market. On Monday, the first trading day of the week, the Indian stock market opened flat with a slight gain. During this period, the benchmark indices, Nifty50 and Sensex, saw slight gains.

On Monday, the 30-share BSE Sensex opened at 78,501.59, up 2.41 points from its previous close of 78,499.17, while the NSE Nifty opened at 24,581.25, up 10.59 points from its previous close of 24,570.65.

Slight Gains in Both Major Indices

In early trading, the Sensex rose 177 points, or 0.22 percent, to 78,676, while the Nifty50 rose 0.2 percent to 24,620. However, the market saw a slight decline in the later session. Among broader markets, Nifty Midcap gained 0.21 percent, while Nifty Smallcap declined 0.13 percent.

Sectorally, Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Auto, Nifty IT, Nifty Metal, Nifty Pharma, and Nifty Consumer Durables outperformed, while Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Media, Nifty FMCG, and Nifty Oil & Gas underperformed. Among the Nifty 50 index, Titan Company, Tech Mahindra, Tata Steel, Grasim, Cipla, Infosys, and Trent were the top gainers, while SBI, HDFC Life, Hindalco, PowerGrid, Eternal, and Reliance were the biggest losers.

Impact of Global Events

After Iran rejected claims of holding direct talks with Washington regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the freight traffic situation through this crucial waterway remains uncertain. Optimism rose last week after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant indicated a deal was near, but President Donald Trump later stated that the US was only partially negotiating with Tehran and intended to maintain economic pressure.

According to market experts, the easing of geopolitical tensions and softening of crude oil prices have improved investor risk appetite. However, investors remain cautious ahead of key US inflation data due this week.
