Sonny leaving General Hospital’s mob storyline marks a major change. It also changes his future in Port Charles. Maurice Benard has now teased what comes next for Sonny.
Maurice Benard teases Sony’s beautiful future on General Hospital
Sonny Corinthos, played by Maurice Benard, and Jason Morgan, played by Steve Burton, are both leaving the mob on General Hospital. Benard says they can change professions without losing power. Their future in Port Charles could look very different.
Benard made the comments on X, formerly known as Twitter. He responded to a fan discussing the mob’s place on General Hospital. The fan questioned what happens if organized crime disappears. The fan specifically mentioned Sonny and Jason’s roles.
The viewer also described the possibility as an ordinary soap. The fan wrote, “To all the #GH fans that hate the mob or Sonny and Jason’s place in it, be careful what you wish for, if it exits completely we are dealing with just another ordinary boring soap like #YR and isn’t that the last thing we want regardless of who you root for?”
Benard responded directly to the concern. He explained that changing professions can still work. However, Sonny and Jason must retain their power. He wrote, “There’s nothing wrong with doing another profession or change as long as both characters still have power And that is the plan I can tell you right now what they have planned in the future is absolutely beautiful.”
Benard’s comments follow major decisions of Sonny and Jason. Both characters recently changed their plans in Port Charles. Last week, Jason informed Sonny he was leaving. He wanted to become a better role model for Danny, as Jason had worked for Sonny since 1996.
Later last week, Sonny told Dante he planned to leave the mob. He wants to focus on legal business opportunities after Sidwell’s arrest. Dante was shocked but happy about his father’s decision.
The two shared an emotional hug and talked openly. Sonny and Jason are entering a new chapter in Port Charles. Benard’s comments suggest big changes are coming for both characters.
