Indian student Varun Batchigari, 20, has been arrested in Germany over the alleged murder of his 19-year-old girlfriend, Julissa Rubi Salazar, in Tucson, Arizona. Police allege he strangled her, stole her phone and cards, and posed as her in messages to conceal the crime. He was arrested after fleeing the US and is awaiting extradition to Arizona.
Washington: An Indian student accused of murdering his girlfriend in Tucson, Arizona, was arrested in Germany before he could board a connecting flight to his home country.
Varun Batchigari, 20, a business analytics student at the University of Arizona, allegedly murdered his 19-year-old girlfriend Julissa Rubi Salazar on August 6 at a Tucson apartment.
According to the Tucson Police Department (TPD), Batchigari travelled to the Tucson International Airport, where he boarded a flight to Germany with plans to continue to India.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Batchigari with first degree murder and kidnapping.
