EV Sales Hit Record High In July

India recorded its highest-ever monthly electric vehicle sales in July 2026, with EV registrations reaching 3,27,901 units.

According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), EV sales increased by more than 66% compared with July last year. The record monthly figure highlights the accelerating adoption of electric mobility across different vehicle categories in India.

The July performance also marked a significant jump in the overall share of electric vehicles in the country’s vehicle market.

Electric Two-Wheelers Cross 2 Lakh Mark

Electric two-wheelers were among the biggest contributors to the July surge, crossing the 2 lakh-unit mark for the first time.

Their market share increased to 11.2% in July, compared with 10.6% in June and 7.7% in July 2025.

The milestone indicates that electric scooters and motorcycles are moving rapidly into the mainstream, with consumers increasingly choosing electric models for everyday mobility.

Electric Three-Wheelers Strengthen Their Lead

Electric three-wheelers continued to dominate their category, recording a market share of 65.1% in July.

This was higher than the 62.7% recorded in June and 60.3% in July 2025.

The strong penetration of electric three-wheelers highlights the growing role of EVs in commercial and shared mobility, where running costs and regular usage can make electrification particularly attractive.

Electric Passenger Vehicles Grow 83%

The passenger vehicle segment also recorded strong growth.

Electric passenger vehicle registrations increased by 83% year-on-year, giving EVs a 7.9% market share in July. The share was unchanged from June but significantly higher than the 5.1% recorded in July 2025.

However, passenger EV growth is still facing supply- constraints, with limited availability of some popular models restricting sales.

Commercial EV Adoption Also Accelerates

Electric commercial vehicles recorded a market share of 3.57% in July, up from 3.54% in June and just 1.65% in July 2025.

The increase suggests that electrification is expanding beyond individual consumers and increasingly entering commercial applications.

The FADA data therefore points to broad-based EV growth rather than expansion limited to a single vehicle category.

India’s EV Market Enters A New Phase

The record July sales indicate that electric vehicles are gaining momentum across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles.

The sharp annual increase, combined with the first-ever crossing of 2 lakh electric two-wheeler sales in a month, suggests that EV adoption is moving rapidly towards a larger role in India’s automobile market.

Summary

India recorded its highest-ever monthly EV sales in July 2026, with 3,27,901 vehicles registered, marking more than 66% year-on-year growth. Electric two-wheelers crossed 2 lakh units for the first time, reaching an 11.2% market share. Electric three-wheelers reached 65.1%, while electric passenger vehicle registrations jumped 83%, giving them a 7.9% market share.
