Student leader Devendra Mahto accused the Jharkhand government of “turning students into enemies” as protests intensified on the Chief Minister’s birthday. He said the use of water cannons and tear gas was “a gift” that was bringing shame to Jharkhand, warning that the agitation could “shake the government’s chair.”

Mahto said students would no longer engage with government delegations and would seek to speak directly with the Chief Minister, demanding that their grievances be addressed.

Meanwhile, the situation escalated after Ranchi Police fired tear-gas shells at protesting students. The number of protesters reportedly increased, with police appealing for calm. A stampede-like situation broke out following the tear-gas action, and some students were reportedly injured. Students have vowed not to back down.
