Hyderabad. Telangana could see a major shakeup under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. Approximately 7.1 million voters are expected to be removed from the state’s voter rolls. The Election Commission of India has conducted a door-to-door survey. The deadline for submitting the enumeration forms is today, August 10, 2026.

One in five voters is at risk of having their names deleted.

According to State Election Commission data, Telangana has a total of 33,826,448 registered voters. Of these, approximately 71.07 lakh voters are at risk of being deleted. This means that at least one in five voters in the state could be struck from the list.

The main reason behind the removal of the name

During door-to-door verification, millions of people were found absent from their registered addresses. Furthermore, in Hyderabad and surrounding urban areas, a significant number of forms were not submitted due to frequent tenant relocations and house foreclosures. This strict measure is being taken to remove duplicates, i.e., names of individuals registered in multiple locations, and deceased individuals from the list.

Draft voter list will be released on August 17

According to the latest official report, approximately 78.14 percent of the counting forms had been digitized by the evening of Sunday, August 9th. The Election Commission will process this entire data after the deadline expires today, and a new draft voter list will be released on August 17th, 2026. Only after this list is released will it become clear which individuals have been officially removed from the voter list.

Election Commission appeal

The election officials have appealed to the citizens of the state to immediately contact their Booth Level Officer (BLO) to know the status of their name or visit the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana to verify their name so that they do not lose their right to vote in the upcoming elections.
