The Monsoon Session of Parliament has seen a continuing standoff between the government and the opposition over the lathicharge on students. The opposition has been demanding Home Minister Amit Shah make a statement on the matter in the House for several days. Now, the government has indicated that Shah will respond to the issue in the Lok Sabha. It is believed that the Speaker of the Lok Sabha will soon schedule his response.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, while accusing the opposition of disrupting Parliament, stated that the government is ready to discuss the student movement and all issues in detail in the House. He appealed to the opposition to refrain from creating any disturbance during the debate and to listen to the Home Minister and the government’s views peacefully.

Rijiju said the government has already made it clear that it wants to discuss the student protests and issues. He also said there is no complete consensus among opposition parties on the issue.

Kharge again demanded a statement from Amit Shah.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge once again demanded that Home Minister Amit Shah come to the House and give a statement. He said that the opposition has been demanding the Home Minister’s response on this issue for 17 consecutive days.

Kharge accused the government of ignoring the House and said that the representatives elected by the people should be heard in the House. He said that the opposition is ready for discussion, but the government is not issuing any statement.

With just four working days remaining in the Monsoon Session, the ongoing parliamentary deadlock has raised questions about the future of several important bills. The situation remains unclear regarding proposed laws to women’s reservation, delimitation, and the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).

Government trying to end the deadlock

Amid the ongoing uproar in Parliament, the government is attempting to break the deadlock through dialogue with the opposition. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju met with Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi twice last week. The two leaders also spoke by phone.

Now, with Amit Shah set to reply in the Lok Sabha, it is believed that a way forward may open to end the ongoing deadlock between the government and the opposition.
