Maharashtra Milk Price Hike: Millions of people in Maharashtra, including the country’s financial capital, Mumbai, have been hit hard by inflation. Milk prices have risen in the state. The increase in milk prices by ₹2 per liter will be implemented in Maharashtra on Tuesday (August 11, 2026). The public is already suffering from inflation even before the price hikes on other commodities. Meanwhile, the decision to increase milk prices will severely impact people’s budgets. 

New rates will be applicable from August 11

New milk prices in Maharashtra will come into effect on Tuesday. A ₹2 per liter increase has already been announced. The new rates will be effective from August 11th, and milk will be available at higher prices from this morning. 

How much did the price increase

Following the milk price hike, cow milk will cost ₹62 per liter in Maharashtra’s cities, up from ₹60 per liter. Buffalo milk will cost ₹78 per liter, up from ₹76 per liter. 

Why did the prices increase?

After the increase in milk prices, dairy operators said that due to increase in production and transportation costs, it had become necessary to take the decision to increase the price.   

Cow milk: Rs 60 per litre (old rate) New rate: Rs 60 per litre

Buffalo milk: Rs 76 per litre (old rate) New rate: Rs 78 per litre

What will be the effect

It’s worth noting that prices of vegetables and other daily necessities are already high. In such a situation, the increase in milk prices is a new blow for families. Meanwhile, representatives of the dairy sector say this decision is an attempt to strike a balance between protecting the interests of milk producers and maintaining a smooth supply system. Dairy unions believe that if prices are not increased, it will be difficult for farmers to continue production. Therefore, the decision to increase milk prices has been taken.
