Hamirpur. A shameful incident has come to light from Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh. A Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) posted in the electricity department, driven by her desire for a son, allegedly stole a newborn baby from a government hospital. Police uncovered the case and arrested the accused SDO and others involved in the conspiracy on serious charges of human trafficking.

The deal was finalised for Rs 5 lakh.

Police investigations revealed that SDO RK Verma, posted at the Maudaha power substation, had several daughters, but he desperately wanted a son. This desire led him to contact a female health worker. He offered her a hefty bribe of five lakh rupees in exchange for a newborn boy.

This is how the child disappeared from the hospital

Lured by a large sum of money, a female health worker targeted the Ghatampur Community Health Center. Defying the hospital’s security and procedures, she cleverly stole a newborn baby from the center and handed it over to the SDO. The baby’s disappearance from the hospital sparked an uproar among the family, who immediately informed the police.

The police busted the gang

Given the sensitivity of this incident, the police immediately formed several separate teams. With the help of CCTV footage, surveillance, and informants, the police investigation led to the female health worker and then directly to the SDO of the Electricity Department. Acting swiftly, the police recovered the child safely and sent the accused SDO, RK Verma, behind bars. The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections. Police officials say that other links involved in this gang and the complicity of health department employees are also being thoroughly investigated.
