Real Madrid have officially announced their squad numbers for the 2026/27 season, with several new signings being assigned their shirts and a number of established players also changing numbers.

The main point of interest is Yan Diomande, who will wear the No.25 shirt after completing his record transfer from RB Leipzig.

The Ivory Coast winger is the most expensive signing in Real Madrid’s history, with the overall value of the deal potentially rising to €140 million.

His shirt number also answers an important question regarding his registration.

Diomande will be registered as part of the first-team squad rather than with Castilla, as had previously been suggested.

While Diomande will wear No.25 in his first season at Real Madrid, fellow new arrival Ibrahima Konate has been given No.16.

That shirt was worn by Gonzalo Garcia last season, with the young forward now making way for the French centre-back.

Marc Cucurella, another of Real Madrid’s summer signings, will take the No.17 shirt.

That number belonged to Raul Asencio last season, but the defender has now switched to No.2, which was previously worn by club legend Dani Carvajal.

Dean Huijsen has also received a new number. After previously wearing No.24, the centre-back will now take the No.4 shirt that became vacant following David Alaba’s departure.

The No.24 shirt will instead go to Denzel Dumfries, who has also joined Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Bernardo Silva completes the list of major first-team arrivals and will wear No.20. That number had previously been assigned to Fran Garcia, who has now left the club for Real Betis.

Many Real Madrid players will wear new squad numbers.

The changes are not limited to the new signings, as several players are moving to different numbers ahead of the new campaign.

Raul Asencio’s switch from No.17 to No.2 is among the most notable changes. The defender now takes over the number associated with Carvajal, while Cucurella inherits the shirt he wore previously.

Huijsen’s move to No.4 also gives him a shirt with considerable history at the Santiago Bernabeu. The defender will now start the season wearing one of the most recognisable numbers in Real Madrid’s squad.

In the youth ranks, Thiago Pitarch will change from No.45 to No.27.

His new number confirms that he will remain part of the Castilla squad rather than being promoted to the first team for registration purposes.

Carlos Espi, meanwhile, will wear No.19 after taking over the shirt previously worn by Dani Ceballos, who has left the club.
