Europe’s top goalscoring honour is returning to FC Bayern once more, with record-breaking striker Harry Kane set to receive the Golden Shoe for the second time after the 2025/26 season, following his earlier triumph in 2024. The Bayern forward now joins a select group of players to have won the Golden Shoe twice, with only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo claiming the award on more occasions. The trophy presentation is scheduled to be held at the FC Bayern Museum on 19 August. The England captain struck 36 Bundesliga goals in another outstanding campaign, matching the tally that brought him the award two years ago. Kane is also regarded as one of the main contenders in this year’s race for The Best FIFA Men's Player.

Rarely for a striker, he places responsibility towards the team above personal success: he is always thinking of his team-mates, both on and off the field. His mentality, quality and character make him the most complete striker of his generation and a true role model beyond football. Harry Kane simply has class and deserves every trophy in the world.”

Board member for sport Max Eberl said: “Harry is not only a finisher, but also a master of the moments that often go unnoticed, because much of what makes his game so exceptional lies in things people do not immediately see: his timing, his awareness of his team-mates and his ability to create space make him stand out. His goals are the final product, but beneath them is a base of football intelligence, team spirit and relentless work for the side.”

Kane scored 73 goals in 65 competitive matches for club and country over the course of last season, while also providing eight assists. That gave him the second-highest single-season goals total of the 21st century, with only Messi scoring more in the 2011/12 campaign. His goals played a decisive role in FC Bayern winning the league, the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup and the DFB Cup. He scored a hat-trick in the cup final in Berlin and finished as the competition’s top scorer. The 33-year-old also ended as the Bundesliga’s leading marksman for the third successive year and came second in the 2025/26 Champions League scoring standings. Kane is additionally the fastest player ever to reach 100 goals for a club in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

As captain of the England national team, Kane guided his country to their best World Cup finish since 1966, scoring key goals in qualification and during the tournament itself. England’s all-time top scorer has also become the highest-scoring British player in World Cup history and has netted more goals across the last four major tournaments than any other European footballer. He is also the only player apart from Cristiano Ronaldo to have scored 20 or more goals at both the World Cup and the European Championship. In the all-time World Cup scorers list, Kane now sits in fifth place. Away from football, he is also making a significant impact. Through his charity, the Harry Kane Foundation, he works alongside leading charitable organisations to raise awareness around mental health.

Kane is the third Bayern player to win this prestigious prize after Gerd Muller, who claimed the Golden Shoe in 1970 and 1972, and Robert Lewandowski, who received it in 2021 and 2022. Kane has now also secured the honour for a second time. The award was administered by French sports newspaper L'Equipe between 1968 and 1991. Since 1997, it has been organised by the European Sports Media (ESM) association, led by kicker. This year, FC Bayern, the Bundesliga and kicker are once again jointly staging the ceremony at the FC Bayern Museum inside the Allianz Arena. Alongside Gerd Muller and Lewandowski, the trophy has also been won by legendary names including Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Francesco Totti, Thierry Henry, Ronaldo, Marco van Basten, Hristo Stoichkov and Eusebio. Former Bayern strikers Roy Makaay and Luca Toni are also part of this distinguished list, although they won it while playing for Deportivo La Coruna and Fiorentina respectively.
