Tezzbuzz Desk – Excel Entertainment has completed 25 years. To mark this special occasion, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar have announced a new initiative called Excel Origins. Its aim is to discover, nurture, and support a new generation of Indian filmmakers under the age of 30.

Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar were just 26 years old when they started Excel Entertainment. Their first film, Dil Chahta Hai, was born out of a youthful spirit and a desire to tell unique stories. The film would later become iconic for an entire generation and laid the foundation for Excel Entertainment’s philosophy of embracing new voices, original ideas, and creative risk-taking.

25 years later, Excel Origins is now offering that same opportunity to a new generation of filmmakers. Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar announced the launch of Excel Origins through a social media post. This marks a new chapter in Excel Entertainment’s journey of discovering and supporting emerging storytellers.

In their joint statement, both said,

This initiative will focus on filmmakers under the age of 30. It will seek out young directors and writers with distinct perspectives and identities. They will be given a platform, the necessary resources, and the creative freedom to realize their original ideas.

Excel Origins will seek stories that challenge the established norms. This will include stories from different genre formats and new worlds of cinema, while also providing opportunities to new and emerging actors and other creative talent.

The initiative isn’t just about curating a slate of films. It’s also about championing new filmmakers, actors, and writers, as well as creating original IP that can be a key part of Excel Entertainment’s next chapter. At a time when the industry increasingly relies on established talent and tried-and-true formulas, Excel Originals is an initiative to trust and nurture new voices before they become big and established names.
