From there we bought lots of beads, elastic, and for three weeks we made jewelry every evening. All the kids had set up stalls; there was a fair to sell them. We started selling them, lovingly telling the aunties, “We made them with so much love, please buy them.” We made money, selling one for 20 rupees.”

Vedika said, “He sold one for Rs. 50, Sara was handling the cash register and I was selling it, in the evening all the money disappeared from the cash register, Ma’am took out the money and spent it at the food stall, she ate all the ice creams, vice creams and there was no money left. Vedika started crying so much that where did all the money go. Then her mother and Amrita aunty said, whatever do you want, we will buy it with the money. But it was her own earnings and she had wasted all the money. This is Sara… because of this we fight.”

Both of them studied together

Sara and Vedika are good friends. They studied together and consider each other like sisters. Their friendship goes back 30 years. They used to fight a lot. Once, Sara broke Vedika’s finger. Vedika used to bite her because she was older. Even today, they both laugh when they recall their childhood memories.

The journey to Kedarnath was special

“Sara and I have been friends since childhood, and we’ve traveled a lot around the world together, but this trip to Kedarnath was very special,” said Vedika. Visiting Kedarnath had always been a dream of Vedika’s. Sara didn’t want Vedika’s first trip to this holy shrine to be without her. Ultimately, they made the trip together just before Vedika’s birthday, making the experience even more memorable.
