Silk is a relatively sensitive fiber. Therefore, one has to be very careful while taking care of silk. Oil stains penetrate the fine fibers of silk quickly and can spread. Therefore, cleaning such stains is quite difficult. However, there are methods that, if followed, can remove oil stains to a great extent.

Just follow a few simple steps and you’ll be fine.

1. Sprinkle a little talcum powder or cornstarch on the oil stain on the saree. This will help absorb the oil. Leave it like this for 20–30 minutes.

2. Then, gently press the stain with a dry, soft cloth or tissue. But don’t rub it.

3. To prevent the stain from spreading, gently press from the outer edges towards the center. Repeat this process several times until the oil stops rising on the cloth.

5. Gently shake off the powder.

6. Using mild detergent, wash the stained area of ​​the saree in lukewarm water.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to silk sarees.

• Clean the stain as soon as possible. Stains can set quickly on silk.
• Before applying any new method to a saree, be careful to see if it might fade the color of the saree.
• It is best to use lukewarm water when cleaning silk. Very hot water can weaken the silk fibers.
