Stock markets are almost flat amid global uncertainty; Sensex gains 43 points, Nifty rises 13 points

Amid continued global uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz , investors remained unenthusiastic on Monday, the first day of the trading week, with both benchmark indices trading in a narrow range throughout the day, closing almost flat. The BSE Sensex gained 43 points, while the NSE Nifty rose 13 points.

Sensex closed 43.27 points higher at 78,542.44

The 30-share Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed at 78,542.44, up 43.27 points or 0.06 percent. During the trading session, the index touched a high of 78,676.98 and a low of 78,298.92. Thus, it fluctuated by 378.06 points during the trading session. Among the Sensex-linked companies, 18 stocks were in profit while 11 were in decline.

Nifty closed at 24,583.80 , up 13.15 points .

On the other hand, the 50-share Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also closed at 24,583.80 points with a marginal gain of 13.15 points or 0.05 percent. Among the companies associated with Nifty, 25 stocks remained in the green while 23 registered a decline. In the broader market, the BSE Midcap Select index, associated with mid-sized companies, was in profit by 0.22 percent while the Smallcap Select index, consisting of smaller companies, was in marginal profit by 0.16 percent.

Realty sector gained the most by 1.60 percent.

In the sectoral index, the realty sector gained the most by 1.60 percent. Apart from this, there was a rise of 1.21 percent in the consumer durables sector, 0.47 percent in capital goods, 0.41 percent in the industrial sector, 0.34 percent in the focused IT index and 0.22 percent in the IT sector. On the other hand, the index of public sector banks declined by 1.30 percent. The housing finance sector was down by 0.59 percent, ‘Midsmall Private Banks Quality Tilt’ index was down by 0.55 percent and the index of midsmall private banks was down by 0.36 percent.

Titan gained the most at 3.14 percent.

Among Sensex companies, Titan was the biggest gainer, rising 3.14 percent. Shares of Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, Asian Paints, and Infosys also held firm. In contrast, State Bank of India, Eternal, NTPC, ITC, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) closed with losses.

FIIs made net purchases of shares worth Rs 480.24 crore

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 480.24 crore on Friday, according to stock market data. Global oil benchmark Brent crude prices rose 1.10 percent to $84.47 per barrel.
