 The Indian Embassy complex in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, was vandalized by anti-India elements. The Indian government has strongly condemned this incident and demanded strict action against the perpetrators.

The Ministry of External Affairs raised the issue

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated clearly that under the Vienna Convention, it is mandatory for any country to ensure the security and sanctity of diplomatic premises. The Ministry has strongly raised this matter with the Slovenian authorities in both New Delhi and Ljubljana.

The MEA stressed that those responsible for such a reprehensible incident must be held accountable and urged law enforcement agencies to take cognizance of the hate and propaganda being spread by such groups.

The incident comes amid efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.

This development comes at a time when India and Slovenia are actively working to further strengthen their bilateral relations. Last month, Indian Ambassador Amit Narang met with Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tone Kajer. The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation. The Indian Embassy stated that the Ambassador presented a letter from External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, and the discussions were held in a cordial atmosphere.

On June 24, Secretary (West) Ambassador Sibi George participated in Slovenia’s National Day celebrations. At that event, Slovenia reiterated its commitment to stand with India in all areas, including combating cross-border terrorism.

The two countries have had diplomatic relations since 1992.

Diplomatic relations between India and Slovenia were established in 1992. The Indian Embassy in Ljubljana has been operational since 2007. India has taken the incident of damage to diplomatic premises very seriously and has called for strengthening security.
