Rainfall to Intensify From August 12

According to the latest IMD warning, Odisha is likely to experience heavy rainfall on August 11, followed by very heavy rainfall from August 12 to August 15. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue on August 16 and 17 as well.

The weather system is associated with a cyclonic circulation over the region. The IMD has also indicated the possibility of a low-pressure area developing over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, which could further increase rainfall activity over Odisha and neighbouring states.

Day-Wise Weather Warning

According to the IMD’s Odisha warning bulletin:

• August 11: Heavy rainfall likely, along with thunderstorms and lightning.
• August 12: Very heavy rainfall expected in parts of the state.
• August 13: Very heavy rainfall warning continues.
• August 14: Very heavy rainfall remains possible.
• August 15: Very heavy rainfall forecast.
• August 16: Heavy rainfall likely.
• August 17: Heavy rainfall may continue in parts of Odisha.

The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and squally conditions during parts of this period.

Low-Pressure System Could Strengthen Rainfall

The developing weather pattern is being closely watched because a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal can draw additional moisture toward eastern India.

Recent forecasts indicate that the system could lead to an increase in rainfall activity not only over Odisha but also over West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Bihar.

Flood and Waterlogging Concerns

The continuing rainfall is a concern for low-lying areas, particularly because parts of Odisha have already experienced significant monsoon rainfall.
