Monsoon has once again become active with full force across the country. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rain, strong thunderstorm and lightning in 17 states and union territories of the country for the next 4 days (11 to 14 August 2026). Due to the simultaneous effect of the low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal and the Western Disturbance, torrential rains have started in large parts of North-West, Central, North-East and Western India. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of waterlogging in the plains, while in view of the danger of landslides and flash floods in the mountainous areas, tourists and travelers have been given strict instructions to avoid traveling to the mountains for the time being. Meteorologists have warned that the risk of landslides and sudden cloudburst has increased significantly in hilly areas. Keeping this in mind, IMD and disaster management teams have advised tourists to avoid traveling on Chardham Marg and sensitive hill treks. Weather condition of Northeast and Western India: Alert of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall will continue in the states of Northeast India—Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura for the next four days. The situation of waterlogging and flood at low lying places remains serious in some areas of Assam and Meghalaya. Talking about Western India, there is a possibility of torrential rains in the Konkan-Goa region of Maharashtra and the coastal districts of Gujarat during the next 48 hours. Safety rules and advisories of the Meteorological Department: The Meteorological Department has asked people living in coastal and waterlogged areas to be alert. It has been advised not to stand in open fields, under trees or near iron pillars during lightning. In areas where visibility is decreasing due to rain, drivers have been appealed to drive slowly. This severe form of monsoon is expected to continue in large parts of the country for the next 4 days.
