Ranchi: Major action has been taken amid the ongoing student agitation in Jharkhand regarding irregularities in JPSC examinations. Let us tell you, former chairman of Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) L Khyangte has been arrested by CID. His arrest has come at a time when students in the state are continuously protesting and demanding an investigation into alleged irregularities in the JPSC examinations.

When did you resign?

L Khyangte had resigned from the post of Chairman of JPSC on 22 July 2026. His resignation came to light at a time when the CID had conducted raids at several places while intensifying the investigation into the exam rigging case. While resigning, he had said that there should be a fair investigation into the matter and that is why he decided to step down.

The interrogation took place for about seven hours.

Before his arrest, CID had interrogated L Khyangte for about seven hours on August 3. According to the officer, he had reached the investigating agency's office at around 11 in the morning and came out from there at around 6 in the evening. This was the fourth round of his interrogation in this case. During this period, the CID team had also raided about 18 places across the state. The investigating agency is probing matters to alleged irregularities and procedure in various examinations conducted by JPSC.

Questions raised regarding blacklisted company

L Khiangte is accused of allegedly selecting a company, which was already blacklisted, for conducting the 14th Civil Services Examination of JPSC. It is alleged that a company named TDPL was given the responsibility to conduct the examination. The main demand of the students protesting on this matter is that all the examinations conducted by the blacklisted company TDPL should be cancelled. Students say that transparency and fairness should be ensured in the examination process.

Who is El Khiangte?

L Khyangte has been a senior administrative officer of Jharkhand. He has also handled the responsibility of Chief Secretary of the state. After the controversies that arose regarding the examinations while he was the JPSC Chairman, his name came to prominence in this entire matter. At present, after the action of CID, further investigation in the case is going on. After the arrest of L Khyangte, there is a possibility of increased stir at the political and administrative level regarding the students' movement and the JPSC examination process.
