A growing number of seniors spending hours at the airport, playing games, eating packed lunches and resting on benches as a record heatwave grips the country, The Korea Herald reported.
South Korea recorded its highest temperature since nationwide records began more than a century ago on Aug. 2, at 42.5 C in Yangsan, around 310 kilometers from Seoul, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).
The authorities have urged people in affected areas to “immediately” halt outdoor activities, The Korea Times reported.
Incheon, the world’s second-best airport behind Singapore’s Changi in the 2026 Skytrax World Airport Awards, is renowned for its efficient operations, cleanliness and modern amenities.
The airport’s terminals offer air conditioning, ample seating, free Wi-Fi, charging stations and restrooms, making it a convenient place to stay cool.

Incheon Airport is around 50 kilometers from downtown Seoul and easily accessible by subway, which people from 65 years of age can travel for free in South Korea.
The growing number of non-travelers staying for extended periods has increased demands on airport staff for cleaning, waste management and monitoring.
The airport said it remains a public facility open to everyone and continues to manage its terminals to minimize inconvenience to travelers.
Incheon is bracing for one of its busiest summer travel seasons on record, expecting 3.77 million passengers between July 25 and Sept. 10, or about 222,000 travelers a day.
