Sarfaraz Khan returns to the Test team after one and a half years, will he get a chance to play or not?

The 2 test matches between India and Sri Lanka are going to start from 15th August. The first test match will be played in Galle. Sarfaraz Khan has been included in the Indian team for this series. Middle order batsman Sarfaraz has returned to Team India after one and a half years. He has been called to Sri Lanka as an injury replacement for Sai Sudarshan.

Sarfaraz played his last Test match in November 2024. He was taken to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but remained out of all five Test matches. After this he was dropped from the Test team. After Sudarshan's injury, now Sarfaraz has got a chance again. He will soon join the Indian team in Colombo.

Where is the place for Sarfaraz?

Sudarshan was playing at number-3. Sarfaraz, who came in his place in the team, will face challenge from Devdutt Padikkal for this position. Padikkal's unbeaten inning of 142 runs against Sri Lanka Cricket XI has presented a strong claim for game number-3. Looking at his form, there is little chance that Sarfaraz will get a chance ahead of him.

28-year-old Sarfaraz has never batted at number three in his 6-Test career. He has been sent at number-6 in 4 test matches. Here he has a direct competition with Dhruv Jurel. Jurel has the support of the team management. Like Sarfaraz, he is an excellent spin batsman. If Team India goes with an extra batsman, only then can there be a chance for Sarfaraz. It will be important to see whether the Indian team plays Sarfaraz at number 7 or trusts an additional all-rounder for this position.

How are Sarfaraz's figures?

Right-handed batsman Sarfaraz has scored 371 runs in 6 Test matches at an average of 37.10. He has one century and three half-centuries in his name. Sarfaraz's first class record is strong. He has scored 5114 runs in 62 matches at an impressive average of 64.73. During this period, he has scored 17 centuries and 16 half-centuries. His best score in first class cricket is 301 not out.

India's test squad:

Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain, Aaqib Nabi, Sarfaraz Khan.
