Automobile Desk: Indian automobile giant Maruti Suzuki has prepared a comprehensive strategy to greatly strengthen its hold in the domestic market. The company is rapidly working on plans to launch 7 new SUVs on Indian roads within the next five years. In view of the rapidly changing auto market and the increasing craze of customers towards SUVs, the company is going to expand its vehicle portfolio.

According to the recently released annual integrated report of Maruti Suzuki, the company's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hisashi Takeuchi said that it has been decided to increase the manufacturing capacity to capitalize on the market growth rate in the coming times. Under this strategy, Maruti will increase its production capacity by approximately 5 lakh additional units during the financial year 2026-27. This additional capacity is likely to help the company significantly in reducing production and delivery time of new models.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki has popular models like Brezza, Victoris and Grand Vitara, which are already performing well in the SUV segment. However, the company's future plans are to create new vehicles keeping in mind buyers with different budgets and needs. These 7 new models coming in the next five years will be part of different segments. Along with this, Maruti is also diversifying its powertrain options. The vehicles to be introduced in the future will not be limited to just conventional petrol engines but will also be offered options like CNG, Strong Hybrid and other modern fuel technologies.

Despite the huge attraction towards SUVs, the company is also confident about its traditional identity i.e. the small car (hatchback) market. According to Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava, total vehicle sales in the Indian automobile market are expected to reach 6.1 million to 6.3 million units by fiscal year 2030-31. The company believes that the demand for entry-level and small vehicles will once again improve in the coming five years as compared to the last five years. The recent revisions in GST rates have also played an important role in making the overall cost of small vehicles affordable, indicating a revival in the market.

Along with the strength on the domestic front, Maruti Suzuki's export performance is also reaching new heights. The company has registered record sales of a total of 24.2 lakh vehicles during the financial year 2025-26. A major part of this figure also comes from international markets, where the company has set a new record by exporting about 4.47 lakh vehicles. Growing domestic demand in the Indian market and continued shipment of cars to overseas markets, both factors are driving the company's long-term growth rate.
