The Indian team is currently on Sri Lanka tour. Team India has to face the host team in a 2-Test series. This series is to start from 15th August. Before this, Team India is playing a warm-up match against Sri Lanka Cricket XI at the NCC Ground in Colombo. On the first day of the three-day warm-up match, the big question seems to be resolved that who will support Mohammad Siraj in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.
After the first day's play, Punjab pacer Gurnoor Brar has emerged as a big contender as the second fast bowler. Whereas the famous Krishna could not leave any special impact. At stumps, Sri Lanka Cricket XI's score is 363/8.
Brar impressed
26 year old Brar bowled well in the first session. He did not get success but there was a big appeal for LBW on his ball. After this, when the ball became old, he looked even more dangerous. He troubled the batsmen again and again by taking advantage of bounce and angle. His short pitch bowling forced Sri Lanka Cricket XI captain Sonal Dinusha onto the back foot.
Brar got his first success in the form of Pawan Ratnayake. He forced the Sri Lankan player to play the wrong hook shot and got it caught by Devdutt Padikkal at deep backward square leg. Even after this, Brar continued to defeat the Sri Lankan batsmen with the old ball. In the last session, he got late movement and sharp bounce, due to which the batsmen often looked confused. Brar took 1 wicket for 49 runs in 12 overs. These figures do not show the picture of how he exerted sustained pressure.
famously seen struggling
In contrast, the first day for Prasidh was a mixed bag. He struggled to bowl well consistently in the initial spell. This 'Hit the Deck' bowler from Karnataka bowled overpitch and gave opportunities to the batsmen to open their hands. After lunch he improved his length. However, he remained far from success. Prasidh did not bowl as disciplined as India expected. If India goes with three fast bowlers, then only they are likely to get a place in the playing XI.
Indian team for test series against Sri Lanka: Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sai Sudarshan, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain, Aaqib Nabi.
