New Delhi: Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly and his wife Donna Ganguly have reportedly received death threats. Kolkata Police has started investigation regarding this matter. According to the report, threatening letters were being sent in Ganguly's name for the last six months. However, the matter became serious after two letters were received recently.

Threatening letters reached Ganguly's office

Sourav Ganguly is currently the President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Two letters reached his office on Monday. In these letters, Ganguly and his wife were allegedly threatened with death. Apart from this, it was also said that people close to him would be harmed.

After this, on behalf of Ganguly, his manager lodged a written complaint at Thakurpukur Police Station in South Kolkata. Police officials have taken the matter seriously and started investigation.

Letters were coming for six months

According to the complaint given to the police, different letters were being sent in the name of Ganguly for about six months. Initially, these letters were not taken very seriously, but after receiving alleged direct death threats in the letters received on Monday, the police was informed about it. Investigating officers say that at present the content of the letters, the method of sending them and their source are being investigated.

Information being collected from courier agency

Initial police investigation has indicated that the threatening letters may have been sent through courier. They are suspected to be to Belgharia area of ​​North 24 Parganas district.

The police have contacted the concerned courier agency and sought information about the goods and consignments sent. The investigation team is also trying to track a mobile number, which may be linked to the person allegedly sending these letters.

What is the reason behind the threat?

Kolkata Police is now trying to find out whether all the letters received in the last six months have been sent by the same person or different people are behind them. Along with this, the possible reason behind the threat is also being investigated.

At present, the police is trying to reach the accused by examining letters, courier records and technical information. According to officials, the case is being investigated from all possible aspects and once the guilty person is identified, action will be taken against him.
