After strengthening its presence in the Indian automobile market, Kia India has completed preparations to launch its most premium 3-row SUV Kia Sorento in the country. The company will officially launch this new flagship SUV in the Indian market on 4 September 2026. This will be the first strong hybrid SUV from Kia for the Indian market, pre-booking of which has also been started at the dealership level.
Engine and powertrain: Option of both hybrid and diesel will be available
The company will launch Kia Sorento on Indian roads with two powerful engine options. The first option will be the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid engine. This engine together with the electric motor generates power of 238 hp and torque of 380 Nm. This hybrid model is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
For diesel lovers, it will also include the option of a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which is also seen in the Kia Carnival. This diesel engine produces 202 hp power and 441 Nm torque. The company can offer this SUV in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) layouts.
Premium interior and high-tech features
The cabin of the Kia Sorento claims to set new standards in the segment in terms of features. It will be offered in 6-seater and 7-seater layout options. A setup of two 12.3-inch curved infotainment and digital instrument screens will be available on the dashboard.
- Comfortable cabin: Ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and powered driver’s seat.
- Entertainment and Connectivity: Premium 12-speaker sound system from Bose, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and connected car tech.
- Premium touches: Panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, head-up display (HUD) and rotary gear selector.
- Safety: Level-2 ADAS tech (lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control), 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake and more than 6 airbags.

Possible price and which vehicles will compete with
The Kia Sorento will be locally assembled in India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route. Its starting ex-showroom price is expected to be between Rs 35 lakh to Rs 40 lakh.
After entering the budget segment of Rs 40 lakh in the Indian auto market, Sorento will directly compete with popular 7-seater SUVs like Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and Volkswagen Tayron.
