If you too are bored of eating the same Matar Paneer or Shahi Paneer and want to try some Dhaba style desi taste in dinner, then ‘Matka Paneer’ is the perfect recipe for you. Cooked on low flame in an earthen pot, this dish not only looks amazing, but its aroma and spicy taste wins the heart of the eater. Material

  • Paneer: 250 grams (cut into square pieces)
  • Onion: 2 large (finely chopped)
  • Tomatoes: 2 (puree or finely chopped)
  • Ginger-garlic paste: 1 tbsp
  • Green chilli: 2 (cut lengthwise)
  • Curd: 3-4 spoons (well beaten)
  • Whole spices: 1 bay leaf, 1 large cardamom, 2 small cardamoms, 1 small cinnamon stick, 4-5 cloves
  • Ground spices: 1 tsp red chili powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Kasoori Methi: 1 tsp (roasted)
  • Oil or Desi Ghee: 3 tbsp
  • Fresh coriander: finely chopped
  • Salt: as per taste

method of making

step 1

First of all take an earthen pot. Wash it and dry it thoroughly. Let the pot heat on low flame for 5 minutes.

Step 2
Now add desi ghee or oil in the pot. When the ghee becomes hot, add all the whole spices like bay leaves, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and crackle it.

Step 3
Now add finely chopped onion and fry until it turns golden. After this add ginger-garlic paste and green chilli and stir for 1-2 minutes. Then add turmeric, red chilli, coriander powder and salt and mix.

Step 4
Now add tomato puree and let the spices cook until the ghee starts leaving the sides. After this, reduce the flame and add beaten curd and keep stirring continuously so that the curd does not curdle.

Step 5
Add some water to the gravy and let it boil. Now add paneer pieces and kasoori methi. Close the lid of the pot and seal it with the kneaded dough. Let it cook on low flame for 8 to 10 minutes.

Step 6
Switch off the flame and open the lid after 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot Matka Paneer with Tandoori Roti, Lachcha Parantha or Butter Naan.
