Mahindra is all set to make a bunch of announcements and launch new products at its annual event this week. We already know that Mahindra has been working on a bunch of new SUVs for both the Indian and export markets. One such SUV that the company is currently working on is actually a lifestyle pickup truck. It is the Scorpio N Pik Up, and an almost production-ready version of the same was recently spotted testing on our roads.
The video has been shared by Kushh Joshi on his Instagram page. The video was recorded by the Instagram user himself. In this video, we see a heavily camouflaged SUV being driven on a busy road. While the exact location is not mentioned, it is somewhere in Maharashtra.
The person recording the video is actually driving behind the pickup truck, and as he gets closer to the vehicle, we get an idea of its size. It is Mahindra’s pickup truck based on the Scorpio N. A couple of years ago, we saw Mahindra unveil a concept called the Global Pik Up. The SUV seen here is based on that concept.
Mahindra manufactures and sells the Scorpio Getaway in markets such as Australia and South Africa. Mahindra did try its luck with the SUV in India, but for some reason, it never really worked. However, such practical and capable lifestyle trucks are popular in international markets.
The test mule seen in the video is the Scorpio N Pik Up truck, and it looks like a production-ready version. There are LED tail lamps and an additional LED stop lamp installed on the rear tailgate of the truck. The alloy wheel design looks similar to that of the Scorpio N, and as we move to the front, we realise that this is a dual-cab pickup truck.
The SUV gets a long bed at the rear for carrying goods, and there is ample space for four people in the cabin. The window design for the rear seats looks different from the SUV, and as we move to the front, we notice that the front end is similar to the Scorpio N SUV. It gets dual-barrel LED headlamps, and we also see a pair of LED fog lamps on the lower part of the bumper.
Mahindra is expected to offer a muscular-looking bumper design with a revised front grille when compared to the 7-seater Scorpio N. We have seen both single-cab and dual-cab versions of the same pickup on our roads in the past.
While Mahindra is testing these pickups on our roads, it is still not clear whether the company will actually launch the Scorpio N Pik Up in India or not. While brands like Toyota and Isuzu already have a presence in this segment, we will have to wait and see whether Mahindra is willing to introduce the new pickup truck in our market.
The Mahindra Scorpio N Global Pik Up is likely to be offered with a diesel engine only. The SUV will use the 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that generates 172 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. It will be offered with manual and automatic transmission options, and we expect both 2WD and 4×4 variants to be launched. If Mahindra launches this lifestyle pick up truck in India, it will rival with the likes of Toyota Hilux which recently got launched in the market. Mahindra can also price the truck a lot more agressively than the Hilux.
