Launched in 2024, the Standard Chartered Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race is the 10th event in Standard Chartered’s global marathon series. It attracts tens of thousands of local and international runners each year. Ahead of the 2026 race, Trinh Nhu Quynh spoke to VnExpress about this year’s edition.

The race is entering its third season. What distinguishes it from others?
Vietnam is one of Standard Chartered’s key markets, where the bank has operated for more than 120 years. Bringing the Standard Chartered marathon series to Vietnam reflects the bank’s focus on promoting healthier lifestyles and community engagement.
The race also features race shirts made from recycled materials and medals inspired by Hanoi’s heritage.
Another feature is its connection to Standard Chartered’s global marathon series. As the 10th event in the series, the race gives Vietnamese runners an opportunity to experience international race standards and meet runners from other Standard Chartered markets.

What are the biggest new features this season?
One of the main additions is the Enterprise Cup 2026, a team competition for businesses.
Each company can register up to two teams, with five runners per team competing in the 10-kilometer category. Rankings will be based on the combined finishing times of team members.
The winning team will receive a four-day, three-night trip to Shanghai to participate in the Standard Chartered Shanghai 10K Run. The organizers said the Enterprise Cup is also intended to promote teamwork and networking among participating businesses.

How is the race engaging more people beyond race day?
We want people to be able to participate in the event even if they are not running.
This year, we introduced the SC Word Race TikTok challenge, inspired by the theme “Together, we go further.” Participants can take part in a virtual running game combined with English pronunciation challenges focused on agility, concentration, and perseverance. Participants can also receive prizes from Standard Chartered Vietnam.
Additional digital challenges will be introduced during the campaign to encourage wider participation.
What community initiatives will accompany this year’s race?
We will continue the “Donate old shoes – Share the joy” program.
During the race expo from November 6 to 8, runners and visitors can donate used shoes. Standard Chartered Vietnam employees volunteering at the event will clean the shoes before they are distributed to disadvantaged communities in remote areas after the race.
Sustainability will also remain a focus. Race shirts are made from fibers derived from recycled materials, as part of efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote more responsible resource use.
