In view of the increasing demand for electric vehicles in India, automobile companies are giving more priority to the EV segment. With rapid sales of electric bikes and scooters across the country, India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, is preparing to make a big entry in the electric two-wheeler market.

This step of Hero MotoCorp can become a big challenge for big companies like Ola Electric, Bajaj Auto and TVS. According to industry reports, the company is planning to officially launch its first electric bike in the Indian market by 2027. Hero aims to provide the Indian youth with an affordable yet powerful electric bike, making daily commuting and long distance traveling easy and affordable.

**Work continues on UBEX and VXZ platforms**

Hero MotoCorp is developing two very advanced and unique architectural platforms for its new electric bikes: UBEX and VXZ. The UBEX platform is being specifically designed for urban riders who commute to work or college on a daily basis.

This platform will support affordable electric bikes in the commuter and utility segments. At the same time, the VXZ platform will be used to make a high-performance, premium electric bike with a sporty look. Operating on two different platforms gives Hero the flexibility to offer the best options to suit different customers' needs and budgets.

**Promise of strong performance**

These bikes are expected to have both fixed and swappable battery options. The base model meant for daily use may have a battery pack of 3.5 kWh to 4 kWh, which will give a real-world driving range of 130 to 150 kilometers on a full charge. Additionally, the premium sporty model will have a larger battery with fast-charging support, allowing the bike to be fully charged in just half an hour. The powerful torque of the electric motor will ensure excellent pick-up when climbing and overtaking.

**Full of modern features**

Hero is equipping its first electric bike with high-tech features to meet the needs of today's tech-savvy riders. It will have a large touchscreen or TFT digital instrument cluster that will support Bluetooth and GPS connectivity.

This will allow riders to connect their smartphones to the bike to access turn-by-turn navigation, call and message alerts, and ride statistics. Apart from this, it will also have practical safety and convenience features like over-the-air (OTA) updates, multiple riding modes, geo-fencing, anti-theft alarm and regenerative braking.

**How much does this cost?**

The much-awaited electric motorcycle from Hero MotoCorp is expected to hit Indian roads by 2027. Hero has always kept in mind affordable pricing for Indian customers; Hence, its starting ex-showroom price is likely to be between ₹1.20 lakh to ₹1.50 lakh.

When launched, it will directly compete with Ola's Roadster range, Bajaj's new electric projects and established models like the Revolt RV400. Backed by Hero's large dealership network and reliable service support across the country, this electric bike has the potential to be a major disruptor in the market.
