Key Points

  • Meg Stalter fuels her Broadway performances with high-protein meals like seasoned eggs and chicken.
  • Her favorite snacks include nutrient-rich options like apples with peanut butter, fruit and popcorn.
  • Stalter avoids bland chicken by using Knorr’s chicken bouillon and flavor base seasonings.

Meg Stalter has been having quite a year, from her standout role in Hacks to starring on Broadway as Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary!—and she’s not done yet. Stalter has teased a debut album arriving later this year called Craveand we can’t wait to listen.

In the meantime, Stalter is staying fueled with some of her favorite foods as she takes on her first Broadway stint. An easy meal of chicken and veggies—like sautéed mushrooms—is what she’s been sticking with for lunch and dinner while performing as the lead of a Tony-winning play. For breakfast, Stalter also keeps it simple and high-protein with some seasoned eggs and a cup of coffee.

“I don’t need [coffee] every morning, but I do like to have it every morning,” she tells EatingWell. “I definitely drink more coffee when I’m filming.”

While on the set of your favorite TV shows, the actor relies on both coffee and craft services for nourishment.

“They always have healthy snacks like boiled eggs, apples with peanut butter, then they also have more fun snacks like chips and candy,” Stalter explains. “I like fruit, popcorn, apple and peanut butter [and] tuna.”

Her listed favorite snacks are nutrient-rich, filling options for satisfaction in between meals. Reese Witherspoon and Zooey Deschanel are also big fans of an apple-peanut butter combo while filming, and we think all three leading ladies would love a slice of apple-peanut butter toast or energy balls for a quick bite.

But there are certain foods that you’ll never see Stalter eating. Along with unseasoned, bland chicken—of course—she’s not a fan of spicy food and can’t stand for raw onions.

“I mean, I’m imagining a sautéed onion and I’m not hating that,” she tells us. “But a raw onion, chopped up really fine? No, no, no, no.”

We caught up with Stalter before she hosted dinner and a show in New York City through a partnership with Knorrmost importantly *roasting* a true culinary crime: bland chicken. Fortunately, Knorr’s chicken bouillon and roasted chicken flavor base helps the comedian-actor-singer-generational star get perfectly flavorful chicken every time.

“It makes cooking easier,” Stalter says. She pairs her seasoned chicken with cooked veggie sides, steering away from fresh vegetables at the moment, especially lettuce: “I can’t afford to get the parasite.”
