James Trafford has finalised a club-record transfer to Leeds United, understood to be worth £40m upfront with a further £5m in add-ons, as Daniel Farke’s team travel to Ireland for their match against Manchester United. That transfer pushes Leeds’ summer spending to £74m, following the £34m arrival of Tarik Muharemovic and the free signing of Harry Wilson. Even so, Leeds are still in the market for a left-back after Gabi Gudmundsson’s injury, and they also want cover at centre-back with Sebastiaan Bornauw nearing a move to Hamburg.

In attack, the club are also looking for more competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while Joe Gelhardt’s future remains uncertain. The Mail says Wrexham are ‘to bid’ £4.5m for the forward after his loan spell at Hull City, where he contributed to 21 goals in 44 appearances. Gelhardt had been hoping a permanent switch to Hull would follow their promotion through the play-offs, but that move has not happened.

Leeds are also renewing their interest in Igor Paixao after going close to signing him last summer. The winger was on target in Marseille’s 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, and head coach Bruno Genesio said afterwards that Paixao has been involved in many dangerous attacks and goals and is a very important player.

Leeds had previously monitored Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki before deciding to move for Trafford. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Suzuki is set to join PSG from Parma and then be sent straight out on loan to Juventus.
