Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday paid tributes to freedom fighter Khudiram Bose on his martyrdom day. Bose was the first among the Indian revolutionaries in Bengal to be executed by the British on this day in 1908.

“A humble tribute on the death anniversary of great revolutionary Khudiram Bose, a brave son of Mother India. By dedicating himself to the noble cause of the motherland's liberation at the tender age of just 18, he awakened the entire nation against the British. His sacrifice, spirit, and dedication will continue to inspire every Indian to walk the path of 'Nation First',” Adityanath said in a post on X.

Born on December 3, 1889, in Medinipur (now Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal), Bose was the youngest freedom fighter to have been hanged during the British Raj.

Bose had attempted the assassination of a British judge, Magistrate Douglas Kingsford, the then magistrate of Muzaffarpur, by lobbing bombs at a carriage he and his associate Prafulla Chaki suspected the British judge was traveling in. Two British women were killed in the incident.

Chaki fatally shot himself before the arrest, while Bose was arrested and sentenced to death. He became the youngest martyr in the history of the Indian independence movement.
