The Indian cricket team is returning to Sri Lanka for a Test series after a gap of nearly nine years. In the first Test, starting August 15th at the Galle International Stadium, the Indian team will face not only the challenge of the Sri Lankan spinners, but also the potential for reverse swing from the old ball. This two-match Test series will prove crucial for India, currently ranked fifth in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
India vs Sri Lanka: Team India to play in Galle after 9 years, Shubman Gill has a special plan to deal with reverse swing.
After winning the practice match, the captain’s special practice on the rough pitch.
Captain Shubman Gill and the team management are putting in all their efforts in preparations ahead of the series. India completed the task of getting their key batsmen and bowlers into rhythm by winning a three-day practice match against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI. Following this, an optional practice session was held at the Nondescripts Cricket Club. However, key fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Gurnur Brar were rested from this session.
Captain Gill’s batting practice was the main focus of the practice session. The Galle ground is highly likely to produce reverse swing once the ball ages. To address this, the team management re-prepared the same pitch on which the practice match was played. The pitch was deliberately kept rough and full of cracks, similar to the fourth day, to help the Indian batsmen adapt to the difficult match conditions.

WTC Points Table
Every point in this series is crucial for the Indian team to remain in contention for the World Test Championship final. Fifth-placed India will need a 2-0 clean sweep in Sri Lanka to close the gap with the top teams. The toss will also play a crucial role in the Galle Test, as batting in the fourth innings on this ground can be extremely challenging for any team.
