What is the whole matter and the new cess?

According to the information received, the Himachal Pradesh government has taken a big decision to impose a new 'Widow and Orphan Cess' on petrol and high-speed diesel. An official notification in this regard has also been issued by the state tax and excise department, which has come into effect from Tuesday. Under this new rule, an additional cess of 60 paise per liter will be charged on both petrol and diesel. The government argues that the revenue from this tax will be used for welfare works of orphan children and widowed women.

Increased difficulties of the public and the situation in the coming days

After this decision of the government, the problems of local drivers and general public have increased slightly. Although currently this cess has been fixed at 60 paise per liter, but under the amended law, the government reserves the right to increase it to Rs 5 per liter. Transporters and the common man believe that the cost of fuel can also affect the prices of other everyday items. At present, the prices of petrol and diesel in other big metros of the country like Delhi and Mumbai remain on their fixed track, but due to the implementation of this new tax in the hilly state, the drivers are having to pay higher prices.
