Mercedes-AMG’s Electric GT 4-Door SUV Emerges from the Shadows Ahead of Its Launch, Taking Aim at the Cayenne EV

Mercedes-AMG made a major statement earlier this year when it launched its new flagship performance model, the all-electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. Now, it looks like a sister model is set to follow.

The performance division of Mercedes-Benz shared a teaser on Sunday, August 9, showing a vehicle concealed beneath a dark cover. The taillights visible through the sheet look strikingly similar to those of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, but the overall silhouette is clearly not as sleek as the low-slung sedan we already know. Rather than a short and flowing roofline, this hidden model appears to sit higher and features a more pronounced hatchback-style rear. Even so, the distinctive LED light bar and the three-pointed-star design language seen on the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupe are still present.

“Born in Affalterbach. Built to challenge all you know,” the post says.

Everything points towards this being a crossover-style sibling to the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe EV, although firm details are still limited. Mercedes first signalled its interest in creating an electric performance SUV in November 2024. The German carmaker then used the same “Born in Affalterbach” message in December 2024 to tease the EV. Nearly two years later, the debut of a performance-oriented electric SUV now appears close.

If the vehicle under the cover is indeed an SUV version of the electric sports saloon, it would be expected to use a 106-kWh battery pack. GT63 versions of the GT 4-Door Coupe deliver more than 1150 horsepower, while the lower GT55 variant produces 805 horsepower, and the entry-level GT53 makes 536. Whatever form it takes, the SUV counterpart to the GT 4-Door Coupe is likely to be just as serious when it comes to performance.
