Pension Update: There is a demand to raise the current minimum pension under the EPS-95 scheme from ₹1,000 to ₹7,500. Many people may be wondering whether the government has made any announcement regarding this pension hike.
Pension Update: After a lifetime of work, the pension and accumulated savings serve as the financial lifeline for many retirees, helping them cover their daily expenses. If the pension received is insufficient, pensioners may face difficulties in managing their living costs.
If someone in your household receives a pension under EPS-95, you know that making ends meet on the current minimum pension amidst rising inflation is far from easy. Recognizing this issue, pensioners have demanded an increase in the pension amount. Naturally, many are wondering if the government has announced any such hike.
Demand to raise pension from ₹1,000 to ₹7,500
Currently, EPS-95 pensioners receive a minimum pension of ₹1,000, and they are demanding that this be increased to ₹7,500.
Question posed to the government regarding the pension hike
In the Lok Sabha, MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri inquired whether the government has any plans to increase the EPS-95 pension. Naturally, many would want to know the government's response to this.
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment provided some key information. He stated that the government also contributes funds to the EPS scheme.
Employers contribute 8.33 percent to the pension fund, while the Central Government contributes 1.16 percent.

What is the update on the ₹7,500 pension hike?
As of now, no decision has been made to set the minimum pension at ₹7,500.
In other words, the government has not yet announced any increase in the pension.
What benefits would arise if the pension is increased? If the minimum pension is raised from ₹1,000 to ₹7,500, pensioners will receive an additional ₹6,500 directly each month.
An increase in the pension would significantly boost their monthly income.
It would also enable them to meet their essential daily expenses.
However, this benefit will only be realized if the government accedes to the demand to raise the minimum pension from ₹1,000 to ₹7,500.
For now, until the government meets this demand, pensioners must continue to manage their expenses within the existing ₹1,000 limit.
