Block on many roads from 4-10 am on August 13, traffic routes in Delhi will change due to full dress rehearsal of Red Fort.

New Delhi: A full-dress rehearsal will be held on August 13 at the Red Fort before the main celebrations of Independence Day 2026. Due to this, Delhi Police has made changes in the traffic system in many areas of the capital. Many major roads around the Red Fort will remain closed for general vehicles on the morning of 13 August. In such a situation, it will be important to have information about the alternative route before leaving the house.

Restrictions will come into effect from 4 am

According to the advisory of Delhi Traffic Police, normal traffic will not be allowed on many roads around the Red Fort from 4 am to 10 am on August 13. Only vehicles with valid rehearsal labels will be allowed entry into these areas.

Major affected routes include Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg and Esplanade Road. Traffic on the Ring Road between Rajghat and ISBT will also be affected.

Advice to avoid these routes

Commuters have been advised to avoid going towards India Gate C-Hexagon, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, Netaji Subhash Marg and JLN Marg. During the restricted time, traffic will also be affected on some parts of the Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmiri Gate.

Alternative routes for travelers

Vehicles traveling in north-south direction can use Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Mandir Marg and Rani Jhansi Road.

For traffic in east-west direction, options like NH-24/NH-9, Barapulla Road and Ring Road have been given. Vehicles coming from DND can go towards Ring Road via Barapulla Road or Ashram.

Ban on goods vehicles also

Movement of goods vehicles will be restricted between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad bridge from midnight of 12th August to 11am on 13th August. The operation of interstate buses will also be affected during this period. DTC and other local buses will also run through alternative routes on some routes. Travelers are advised to check traffic updates before traveling on August 13 and avoid restricted areas if possible.
