Porsche’s Sonderwunsch, or “special wishes”, division has done it again. This time, the inspiration comes from Australia, and the finished car is called the 911 Turbo S Land Down Under.

This unique 992.2-generation Turbo S is a bespoke Sonderwunsch commission created by Porsche Cars Australia to mark 75 years of the brand’s official presence in the country. From afar, it could pass for a silver 911 Turbo S coated in dust after a run through the Outback, but a closer look makes it clear just how distinctive this car really is.

The standout feature is its Chromaflair gradient paint finish. This is the first Porsche in Australia to wear these two new Chromaflair paint shades: Terra Australis Red on the lower section of the car and Southern Cross Blue across the upper half. Both colours were applied by hand, and completing the finish took more than 300 hours. The end result creates an appearance that shifts between “desert orange, dusk-sky blue, eucalyptus green and sunrise gold depending on the angle and light.”

Although the custom paintwork inspired by Australia’s natural scenery is the main visual draw, the exterior includes several other details that make this car special. Porsche worked with Sydney-based artist Werner Bronkhorst to produce a series of Australian-themed illustrations for the vehicle; these miniature artworks, inspired by the nation’s landscapes, wildlife and culture, are hidden in unexpected places around the car, adding yet another layer of character.

Inside, the Australian theme carries through with a cabin trimmed in Dark Night Blue leather and Coolibah Brown. The seats feature 14,417 perforations arranged to form a distinctive pattern, while Australian Silky Oak wood trim and topographical graphics of the Blue Mountains integrated into the dashboard and door panels add further depth to the design. The centrepiece, however, may be the embroidered headliner, which shows the Southern Hemisphere night sky as it appeared above Uluru in 1951, marking the year Porsche officially arrived in Australia.

Naturally, this one-off is not only about bespoke detailing. Beneath the remarkable paint finish and Australia-inspired touches sits a 701-horsepower hybrid powertrain. The 911 Turbo S can sprint to 60 mph in just 2.0 seconds. Porsche also had some fun with that performance figure, hiding the phrase “See ya later, mate” under the rear spoiler for anyone left trailing behind.

As expected, this particular car is a true one-of-one and is unlikely ever to leave Oceania, so the chances of seeing it in America are slim. Even so, it could serve as inspiration for your own future Sonderwunsch commission.
