Few vehicles draw as much attention on the road as police cars, and among them, no patrol car is as iconic—or intimidating—as a high-speed pursuit vehicle. Police departments across the country currently have several options in this space, but it now seems Dodge may be preparing to return to duty with the newest version of the Charger. At this week’s Police Fleet Expo in Florida, one particularly heavily equipped Dodge appears to preview the forthcoming Charger PPV.

This first look at what seems to be the Charger Police Pursuit Vehicle comes from Team One Public Safety Division, which photographed the modified and upfitted Charger SixPack at Daytona International Speedway during the expo. Concrete details about the car are still fairly limited, but the post does state that ordering is expected to open in summer 2027. From the images alone, it is difficult to tell whether the PPV uses the Standard Output or High Output version of the Hurricane inline-six. Dodge has not yet provided fuller details on this demonstrator.

Whichever engine version it carries, the outcome should be stronger than the old V-8 model’s 370-hp figure, whether the new unit is the 420-hp version or the 550-hp version. Like every Charger currently on sale, the PPV is reportedly expected to use an all-wheel-drive configuration. Other typical law-enforcement upgrades are also likely, including tougher suspension hardware, extra cooling for the engine and gearbox, and other duty-specific modifications.

The cabin of this particular demonstrator has already been reworked with the expected equipment, including passenger dividers, radios, light controllers, and more. Even with the car’s substantial size, the front section appears somewhat cramped once all the additional hardware is fitted. The console-mounted shifter, especially, will probably need to be revised before these vehicles actually begin service. Even so, it is by no means a bad-looking police vehicle. Whether it can outrun Ford’s service-ready Mustang—or convince departments to adopt it—is an entirely different matter.
