Kolkata: The West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a suspected Pakistani national allegedly linked to Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI, officials said.
The accused has been identified as Rana Rauf, a resident of Faisalabad, Pakistan. Investigators suspect that he was involved in collecting sensitive information to the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF) and railway operations.
According to sources, Rauf allegedly entered India using forged identity documents and created a fake Indian identity while staying in Kolkata.
Alleged ISI Links Under Probe
Investigators suspect that Rauf was recruited by the ISI and was allegedly sharing information with handlers across the border.
Officials are examining his activities, movements and possible connections to identify whether he was part of a larger espionage network.
Fake Identity And Illegal Entry
Sources said Rauf had reportedly been staying in Nepal before entering India illegally.
After reaching West Bengal, he allegedly adopted a different identity and obtained fake Indian documents using a fictitious address in Kolkata.
The STF has reportedly recovered documents linked to the fake identity during the investigation.
Investigation Continues
The STF has detained another person suspected to have links with Rauf. Officials are investigating the person's role and the possible extent of the network.
Investigators are also looking into Rauf's travel history and alleged plans to leave India through Bangladesh before reaching Pakistan.
The probe is underway to uncover further details about the suspected intelligence operation.
