New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing deadlock in the monsoon session of Parliament, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has launched a scathing attack on the opposition. He said that he is extremely disappointed and saddened by the attitude of the opposition. Rijiju alleges that the government itself is ready to hold a discussion in Parliament and answer the opposition's questions, but the opposition is retreating from the discussion.

He said that for the first time in his political career he has seen such a situation when the government wants discussion and the opposition is avoiding it. Rijiju claimed that now the public also wants to know why Congress is withdrawing from the discussion.

'Government is ready for discussion, opposition is retreating'

Rijiju spoke to journalists in the Parliament complex after the Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day due to opposition's uproar. He said that in a parliamentary democracy, usually the opposition demands discussion and the government answers its questions.

But describing the current situation as different, he said that this time the government itself is talking about holding discussion and answering all the questions, whereas the opposition is not ready for discussion.

Rijiju described this as not a good sign for democracy and said that the government has continuously made clear its desire to discuss the issue.

Amit Shah again wrote a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker

According to the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, as the opposition did not agree despite the government's desire to hold the discussion, Home Minister Amit Shah wrote another letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Rijiju said that in the letter, Amit Shah expressed the government's desire for an open, comprehensive and detailed discussion on this issue and requested the Lok Sabha Speaker to get the opposition leaders to agree to the discussion.

'Have you ever heard that the opposition is running away from discussion?'

Rijiju raised questions on the attitude of the opposition and said that he had never seen such a situation before, where the government itself was requesting the opposition to participate in the discussion in the House.

He said that the government on Wednesday also appealed to the opposition to start the discussion immediately, but the opposition was not ready for it. Rijiju said it was not good for the country.

Hope to discuss students' issue

Noting that only one day was left for the monsoon session, Rijiju expressed hope that the opposition would be ready to discuss issues to students and listen to Home Minister Amit Shah.

He said that the door is open from the government side for discussion and reply in Parliament, but the opposition should also come forward for talks.
