Mumbai : Amidst the ongoing political debate regarding reservation in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made the government's stand clear. He said that the state government is ready to consider the reservation demands of different communities, but the decision on any demand will be taken only within the framework of the Constitution and the prescribed rules. Fadnavis clearly said that the government is not in favor of snatching the rights of one community and giving it to another community.

During the conversation, the Chief Minister said that if any demand is in public interest and is in accordance with the Constitution, the government will consider it. The demand which is not in accordance with the constitutional provisions cannot be accepted. He said that the responsibility of the government is to take care of the interests of all communities and provide justice to all.
Fadnavis's statement has come at a time when the debate regarding Maratha reservation and OBC reservation is intense in Maharashtra. The matter has become more heated after Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange raised questions on state Revenue Minister Chandrakant Bawankule. The Chief Minister, defending Bawankule, said that when a complaint or application comes to a minister, sending it to the concerned department for investigation is part of the procedure. No final decision is taken based on the application alone, rather the concerned department takes the decision on the basis of available evidence and rules.
He also said that the committee investigating reservation- matters is independent and has judicial powers. Fadnavis talked about taking care of the rights of all communities including Maratha, OBC, SC, ST, Vimukt Jatis and nomadic tribes.
